6 Tips for Getting Motivated
This summer, I found myself stuck in a huge rut. I had little to no motivation to get any work done and I was even too unmotivated to really care.
If you've ever felt this way, you're certainly not alone.
But here's the silver lining—I stumbled upon a few game-changing strategies that reignited my motivation, and I'm here to share them with you.
I’d love to save you the wasted time and frustration, and these steps might just be the productivity boost you need.
Step 1: Block Your Calendar
I realized that what works for my workout routine can work for my work life too. Every Sunday I block and schedule my workouts for the week.
I know exactly what I need to do and when. There’s none of the “Should I? Shouldn’t I?” or “I’ll ‘find’ time for it at some point.”
By blocking specific times on my calendar for specific tasks, I eliminated a lot of mental energy trying to decide what to do next and why.
This simple step brought clarity and structure to my day and became a game-changer.
Step 2: Set Alarms with Purpose
Setting alarms for specific tasks not only kept me on track but also eliminated the "I'll do it at some point" mindset.
Adding a motivating soundtrack to my alarms was the extra push I needed to stay focused in the midst of all the daily distractions.
Step 3: Communicate Your Boundaries
I created a “cloak of invisibility” during focused work times.
I communicated to those around me that I was not available during certain times of the day.
In fact, they should imagine I’m not even here.
So no, I can’t answer your question real quick. Because I’M NOT HERE.
Communicating these boundaries helped carve out dedicated, interruption-free blocks for maximum productivity.
Step 4: Zero Distractions
Just like in my workouts, I applied the rule of zero distractions during focused work sessions.
I would never think of checking my phone during a workout.
Turning off email notifications, silencing my phone, and closing unnecessary windows prevented the tempting detours that often derail my productivity.
Step 5: Reflect at the End of the Day
Taking a moment at the end of the day to reflect on all that I accomplished felt REALLY GOOD and was the reinforcement I needed to keep using my “new system”.
I also reflected on any changes that might need to be made to make things work even better.
Step 6: Clarify Your Purpose
This bonus step is a biggie.
In the midst of the daily grind, I had somehow lost clear sight of my purpose.
My reason for doing what I do.
Rediscovering the "why" behind my tasks—making a positive difference in people's lives—added a powerful layer of motivation.
