Short Bursts of Physical Activity Get More Validation

messages Nov 10, 2009

Lately there's been a good amount of buzz in the exercise science world about the benefits of workouts that consist of short bursts of intense physical activity vs. longer workouts done at a lower intensity.

Quite a bit of research has been showing that exercise done in intense intervals (going all out for 30-60 seconds) burns more fat during exercise as well as increases the amount of fat burned in the subsequent 24 hours after the workout is over.  It also provides dramatic improvements in fitness.  TOOT!  TOOT!!!

This is good news on several levels:

1.  PowerHouse Hit the Deck™ consists of 30-60 second intervals of doing as many repetitions as you can - going all out.  You can burn massive amounts of calories and fat in your own living room with absolutely no fitness equipment.  (I'm serious when I say I'm not stupid - I know what works when it comes to training!)

2.  Perceived lack of time is one of the top excuses for not exercising.  This means your workout can be quite short, as long as you keep the intensity high for your intervals.  Lucky you!

3.  You burn fat not only while you're exercising, but also at a higher rate even after you've stopped.  This means that while you're going about your daily activities for 24 hours after the workout, you're burning more fat.  Everyone else is going to be so jealous of you...

4.  You get results.  My philosophy is to work smart and hard.  No lollygagging, no wasting time, no doing things that aren't going to benefit you.  Start your workout, focus, push yourself, be done with it, then reap the rewards.

ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS:

Are you getting the results you want from your workouts?

Are you happy with your level of body fat?

Are you at the fitness level you want to be?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, it may be time to try something new!  What have you got to lose?
