From Burnout to Bloom

So this past weekend, we drove out into the desert to see the super bloom, and as we wandered through, we stumbled on a specific scene which made me pause and (maybe…just maybe) exclaim, “Whoa, that's so cool looking!”

And it reminded me just how often I'm so amazed at plants in the desert. They are continually under such harsh, extreme, stressful circumstances and they're just so dang resilient. Because when they finally get water, when they finally get the resources they need in order to thrive, they do. They bloom like crazy.

Which then got me thinking of how many times we as humans ask ourselves…

Why am I not blooming?

Why am I not thriving?

And when you really think about it…

Are you getting water?

Meaning are you getting energy recovery?

Are you getting what you need in order to thrive in all areas of your life?

I have to admit the timing of this was also ironic because I just had a monthly check-in with one of my coaching clients where during our conversation, she expressed, “Wow, I’m just in a funk.”  

And in her journal she wrote,

“I believe in a full and colorful life. It's shocking to me that I let so much color slip out of my life the last 3 to 4 months.”

And what she realized was that she had slipped into this habit (especially over the winter) that maybe you can relate to. It went something like this:

Go to work. Grind really, really hard. Come home from work. You're exhausted. It's cold. It's dark outside. So you stay home. You go to bed. You wake up. Grind. Come home. Go to sleep. Wake up. Grind. Come home. Go to sleep…

You just may feel like you’re stuck in groundhog day 😞

But what she and I had figured out previously was that when she's not investing energy in all areas of her life that are really important to her, that's when the color slips out. (And I think this is an important reminder for all of us)
