Who is the most important person in your life?

There's a conversation that happened in my group coaching call this week that I wanted to share with you, because I'm betting you've had this thought or at least, maybe it resonates. So people were sharing that they were just struggling and having a hard time getting clarity around their beliefs.

And then when I started to help them dig a little bit deeper, they were also really struggling with energy, burnout, and self-care. And it got me really thinking that yes, it's hard to focus on those higher executive functions of your brain when you are in survival mode. It's almost impossible to do. And so as I brought this forward, “It sounds like a lot of you are really kind of exhausted.” And one person, as they were talking, used the word selfish, and that it feels selfish to do things related to self-care. So after some more discussion, I offered,

“I'm actually going to invite all of you to just question and reflect on what stories you might be telling yourself around what it means to be selfish, especially when it comes to taking care of your needs, your recovery, your own health and well-being.

YOU are actually the most important person in your life.

And when I said this to the group, heads went down, pens were going. And I think a lot of them were really surprised to hear this. But you are the most important person in your life because if you're not prioritizing you, you feel like a giant turd and a turd is not what your family wants. It's not what your loved ones want. It’s not what your teams want. And so you need to start challenging those stories around your self-care.

So big question for you is:

What will you do to prioritize yourself either today or this week?
